Why a minivan with a driver on the Amalfi Coast

The coast road is the reason to come and the problem once you are here: narrow, hanging over the sea, with paid car parks full by ten in the morning and public buses packed in summer. With a driver you watch the road from the window and stop where you like: a viewpoint for photos, a bar in Praiano, the beach in Positano. The group is yours, so you leave when you say and come back when you have finished.

The three stops

Positano

The vertical town, houses tumbling down to the Spiaggia Grande. The driver drops you as close to the centre as the road allows; the rest is on foot and downhill, the boutiques, the ceramics, the church of Santa Maria Assunta with its majolica dome, the seafront.

Amalfi

The town that gave the coast its name, a maritime republic in the Middle Ages. The cathedral of Saint Andrew at the top of its staircase, the main street with the handmade-paper shops, the harbour. It is the natural place for lunch, which is not included; the driver knows where to eat without the queue.

Ravello

On the hill above Amalfi, with the gardens of Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone hanging over the Gulf of Salerno. The quiet stop of the day and the one with the widest view. Entrance to the villas is paid on the spot.

How the day is arranged

When you book, tell us where you are staying, how many you are and what you would like: more time in Positano, a stop at the Fjord of Furore, a lunch reservation. The minivan takes up to 8 passengers; the meeting point is agreed according to your accommodation. The driver drives and accompanies but does not enter the sites with you; if you want a licensed guide for the old towns or the villas of Ravello, say so and we add it to the quote.

What is included and what to bring

Included: the transfer from and to the meeting point and the minivan with driver for the day. Not included: entrance tickets, meals, drinks and extras. Comfortable shoes for the old towns, which are made of steps; in the hot months water, a hat and sun cream. The tour depends on the weather.
