Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius in a day trip with a minivan and a driver just for your group, one of the private tours we run around Pompeii, Italy. The driver, who speaks English and Italian, collects you at your accommodation and takes you to the archaeological site, where a licensed guide walks you through the ruins, and then up the volcano, where a licensed alpine guide takes you to the rim of the crater at 1,281 metres. A packed lunch is included.
The price is for the whole vehicle and depends on where you start and how many you are: ask for a quote below or on WhatsApp. Entrance tickets to Pompeii and to the Vesuvius National Park are not included: the Pompeii ticket is bought at the gate, the Vesuvius one online in advance, and we send you the instructions after booking.

Private or shared: which Pompeii and Vesuvius tour
Our Pompeii and Vesuvius tour from Naples runs every day at a fixed price with a fixed timetable. The private version is for those who want the day to fit around them: a start time that suits the children, pick-up at a villa on the coast rather than at a meeting point, more time in Pompeii and less on the volcano or the other way round, a stop in Herculaneum on the way. You pay for the vehicle, so for a family or a group of six to eight the difference with the shared tour narrows.
Pompeii with a licensed guide
The guide meets you at the entrance and chooses the route through the city buried in 79 AD: the forum, the baths, the bakeries with their millstones, the theatres, houses with frescoes and mosaics, and the plaster casts of the people caught by the eruption. A private guide can slow down where you are interested and skip what you are not; tell us beforehand if there is something you particularly want to see.
Vesuvius with an alpine guide
The minivan drives up into the National Park to the end of the road, and from there the path to the crater rim is on foot, about half an hour on gravel. At the top the alpine guide explains the volcano and its eruptions, and on a clear day the view takes in the whole Gulf of Naples, from the city to Sorrento and Capri.
What is included and what is not
Included: the minivan or minibus with driver, transfers from and to your accommodation, the licensed guide in Pompeii, the alpine guide at the crater, a packed lunch and multilingual assistance on board. Not included: the entrance tickets to Pompeii, bought at the gate and free for EU citizens under 18, and to the Vesuvius crater, which must be bought online before the day (we send you the link and the time slot to choose after booking), and anything not listed. Wear closed shoes, and in summer bring water and a hat: neither site has much shade.
