Capri has no airport and no bridges: you can only get there by boat. From Rome the fastest route is train to Naples, then hydrofoil.
Rome to Naples by train
High-speed trains link Roma Termini and Napoli Centrale in just over an hour. From Napoli Centrale you reach the port by taxi or public transport.
Naples to Capri
Hydrofoils to Capri leave from Molo Beverello: the crossing takes about 50 minutes. Slower ferries leave from Calata Porta di Massa, about 80 minutes. You always arrive at Marina Grande.
If you are staying outside Naples, in Torre del Greco, Portici or on the Sorrento Peninsula, you can skip the city port with the HP Travel ferries.
Capri from Rome in a day
It can be done, but timing is tight: there and back you spend at least four hours travelling. To avoid juggling trains, ports and connections there is our Capri tour from Rome: high-speed train, transfers, island boat trip and guided visit of Capri and Anacapri, in about 13 hours.
