A sea day after the ruins
Most people staying in Pompeii come for the archaeology and give the coast a day. Doing it by road means the pass over the Lattari mountains and the coast road, slow in summer and no fun for whoever drives. This tour does it by water, from the port of Castellammare di Stabia, and brings you back to your meeting point in the evening. Tell us where you are staying and we send you the nearest pick-up in Pompeii or Castellammare.
What you see from the deck
Vesuvius sits behind you as the boat crosses the bay, and the peninsula unrolls alongside: Sorrento on its cliff, the Baths of Queen Giovanna, the Bay of Ieranto, the protected waters around Punta Campanella. Once past the point you are on the Amalfi Coast, with the Li Galli, Nerano, Praiano and the Fjord of Furore going by before the first landing. The tour leader explains each place as it comes and, at the stops, tells you when to be back.
Amalfi and Positano
Amalfi first: the cathedral of Saint Andrew at the top of its staircase, the paper shops along the main street, a granita in the square. Then Positano, arriving from the sea with the town stacked up the hill in front of you: lanes of boutiques and hand-painted pottery, the beach, the church of Santa Maria Assunta with its majolica dome. Lunch is not included, so choose your town before you land.
Price and notes
Adults € 94, children aged 3 to 6 € 84, infants up to 2 free, and the price is the same in every month. Included: transfer, cruise, crew and free time; lunch and tickets are paid on the spot. Both towns climb steeply from the water, so shoes matter, and in summer bring a hat, water and sun cream; the itinerary depends on the sea. Have a look at the Amalfi Coast map and the Positano map before you go.
