Amalfi Coast map

Amalfi and Positano on the map, with the places not to miss and the easiest way to get there.

The coast at a glance

The Amalfi Coast is the stretch of coastline between Positano and Vietri sul Mare, on the southern side of the Sorrento Peninsula. The three most visited towns are Positano to the west, Amalfi in the middle and Ravello, on the hill above Amalfi.

By land they are linked by the SS163, narrow and busy from May to September. By sea distances shrink: sailing from Positano to Amalfi you pass Praiano, Furore and Conca dei Marini, with watchtowers on the rocks.

Central Amalfi can be walked in a couple of hours. You land at the pier and in a few minutes reach piazza Duomo, with the steps of Saint Andrew’s Cathedral and the Cloister of Paradise. Walking up the main street you reach the Paper Museum, which tells the story of the handmade paper Amalfi has been known for over centuries. Marina Grande beach is right by the port.

Positano steps down to the sea in terraces. From Spiaggia Grande, where the boats dock, you walk up past fashion boutiques and sandal makers. The town’s symbol is the church of Santa Maria Assunta, with its yellow and green majolica dome. For the classic photo of the village, the best view is from the sea as you arrive.

Getting there

The easiest way is a day boat tour, stopping first in Amalfi and then in Positano. HP Travel leaves from Naples, the Vesuvius coast, Castellammare, Sorrento, Piano di Sorrento and Vico Equense. Every departure is on the Amalfi Coast boat tours page.

We had the best time with Cheto!! We felt extremely safe and loved every minute!! He made sure to stop at each grotto and my family was able to swim at different places.

The best of Campania is seen from the sea.
