Capri Coast to Coast: Island Boat Tour and Blue Grotto
Capri Coast to Coast is our 90-minute boat tour around the island with a stop at the Blue Grotto. It leaves from the HP Travel office at Marina Grande, via Don Giobbe Ruocco 51, with seven departures between 9:30 and 13:00, every day from 1 March to 31 October.
Of all the Blue Grotto tours in Capri, Italy, this is the short one: in an hour and a half you see the side of the island you can't reach on foot: the White and Green grottoes, the Natural Arch, the Faraglioni and the Punta Carena lighthouse. Then the boat waits outside the Blue Grotto for anyone who wants to go in. The tour costs € 25 and children up to 5 travel free.

The route around Capri
You meet our staff at the office in Marina Grande. They give you a printed map of the island and walk you to the boat. From there the boat follows the whole coastline, and the crew explains what you are looking at in English and Italian.
- The White Grotto and the Marvellous Grotto, two limestone caves on the east coast.
- The Natural Arch, the rock arch high above the sea.
- The Faraglioni, the three rocks that are the symbol of Capri, with the arch in the middle one that the boat passes through when the sea allows.
- Villa Malaparte on its cliff, and the bay of Marina Piccola.
- The Green Grotto, named after the colour of its water, and the Punta Carena lighthouse at the south-west tip.
- The Blue Grotto, with Villa San Michele high above the north coast.
Visiting the Blue Grotto
The Blue Grotto is on the north-west coast, below Anacapri. The entrance is a gap in the rock just over a metre high, so you move from our boat onto one of the small rowing boats licensed to take visitors inside, and lie back as you pass under the rock. Inside, sunlight coming through an underwater opening turns the water a bright blue.
Entry is not included in the tour price: it costs € 18 per person and is paid on the spot. The boatmen usually ask for a tip, which is up to you. The grotto only opens when the sea is calm. If the wait at the entrance goes beyond 45 minutes, the captain can head back to port; your ticket then lets you return to the grotto another time with a free transfer, or skip the visit. Opening hours and official prices are in our Blue Grotto guide.
Capri map
Everyone gets a paper map of the island before boarding. The digital version is below: it shows the two towns, Capri and Anacapri, the funicular from Marina Grande, the Blue Grotto and the Faraglioni, so you can plan the rest of your day once you are back on land. Tips on how to use it are on our Capri map page.

After the boat tour
You are back in Marina Grande, a short walk from the funicular up to the Piazzetta. Ask our staff for tips on how to spend the rest of the day. If you want a guide on land as well, there is the guided tour of Capri and Anacapri, which also starts from our office. For more time in the water, choose the coast to coast tour with a swimming stop.
