My sister, mom and I really enjoyed this day trip. I would even say it exceeded our expectations. We got picked up from Pompeii, the pickup location was easy find. The guide Elena was great, spoke perfect English and explained the plan really well. We ferried over to Capri and then got taken to their office where they gave us a map and recommendations of things to do during our 5 hours of free time. I personally would recommend having a plan ahead of time so you can just go straight to it. We chose to go up the funicular to the main town for €5 return trip. We walked around the main town and then paid to go into the Augustus Gardens, it was €2.50 and the views from there were phenomenal. We took our time there and enjoyed the views. We continued stroll around town and then went back down to the free public beach and spent 2 hours there swimming and laying on the beach. After that we met with the group again and had an hour long cruise around the whole island. Beautiful views.

Reviews of this tour
Amazing day trip to Capri, the guide was amazing the whole way through, always making sure we knew exactly what was happening, where we needed to meet and what time. Loads of free time in Capri, plenty of time to see both parts of the island which is just absolutely beautiful 😍 then a lovely boat tour around the island at the end of the day! Dropped off and picked up right outside our hotel, cannot complain about anything 😁 easily worth the money and a must-see if travelling to the Amalfi coast!
Elena the tour guide was superb. Helpful and friendly. The whole team was good especially at the 'blue' bus stops. The beat the queue ticket for the chair lift was a great idea. The boat trip was amazing, especially the way the Captain got the boat so close.
Our guide Elena was simply amazing. The organization of our trip was flawless and instructions were always very clear. We were more than satisfied! Capri is a breathtaking island. I do recommend this trip.
Elena was really great. Definitely recommend the swimming stop option. The best way to see the island. We took the public transport option to get around the island. Buses were crowded but it was very cheap €2.50 per trip.
Capri from the archaeological side of the bay
If you are discovering Pompeii and staying nearby, Capri is across the water and the boat is the direct way. Tell us where you are staying and we send you the nearest meeting point in Pompeii or Castellammare; the transfer takes you to the port and the day is on the sea from there, with Vesuvius over your shoulder and the cliffs of the Sorrento Peninsula alongside before the crossing to the island.
Free time on Capri
At Marina Grande you pay the landing fee of the town, € 5 per person, and the assistant gives you the map and the return time. Then: the funicular up to the Piazzetta and the walk to the Gardens of Augustus above the Faraglioni; or the bus to Anacapri, Villa San Michele and the chairlift to Monte Solaro, the top of the island. Tickets and lunch are paid on the spot. The Blue Grotto is not on the programme because of the queue at its entrance; if you want to go in, plan it in your free time with the assistant and read our Blue Grotto guide first.
The cruise, with or without a swim
In the afternoon the boat goes round Capri with the tour leader: the Marvellous, White and Green grottos, Villa Malaparte on its rock, the Faraglioni and the Arch of Love when the sea allows. From June to September you can book the version with the swimming stop in the bay of Marina Piccola, under the Faraglioni, sea permitting: swimsuit under your clothes, towel and sun cream in the bag. Then back across the bay, and the transfer returns you to the meeting point.
Prices
Without the swim, from April to October: adults € 94, children aged 3 to 6 € 84. With the swim, from June to September: adults € 109, children € 99. Infants up to 2 travel free in both cases. Both rates are in the price table above and in the calendar. Included: transfer, crossing, free time, cruise, map and, in the summer rate, the swimming stop. Not included: landing fee, lunch and tickets on the island. Comfortable shoes for Capri, hat and sun cream for the boat; the route depends on the sea. The Capri map helps you plan the hours ashore.
Other departures from Pompeii and Castellammare
For the coast instead of the island, the Amalfi and Positano cruise from Pompeii and Castellammare, € 94, and the version with Ravello, € 135. All island departures are on the Capri boat tours page.
