My sister, mom and I really enjoyed this day trip. I would even say it exceeded our expectations. We got picked up from Pompeii, the pickup location was easy find. The guide Elena was great, spoke perfect English and explained the plan really well. We ferried over to Capri and then got taken to their office where they gave us a map and recommendations of things to do during our 5 hours of free time. I personally would recommend having a plan ahead of time so you can just go straight to it. We chose to go up the funicular to the main town for €5 return trip. We walked around the main town and then paid to go into the Augustus Gardens, it was €2.50 and the views from there were phenomenal. We took our time there and enjoyed the views. We continued stroll around town and then went back down to the free public beach and spent 2 hours there swimming and laying on the beach. After that we met with the group again and had an hour long cruise around the whole island. Beautiful views.

Amazing day trip to Capri, the guide was amazing the whole way through, always making sure we knew exactly what was happening, where we needed to meet and what time. Loads of free time in Capri, plenty of time to see both parts of the island which is just absolutely beautiful 😍 then a lovely boat tour around the island at the end of the day! Dropped off and picked up right outside our hotel, cannot complain about anything 😁 easily worth the money and a must-see if travelling to the Amalfi coast!

Elena the tour guide was superb. Helpful and friendly. The whole team was good especially at the 'blue' bus stops. The beat the queue ticket for the chair lift was a great idea. The boat trip was amazing, especially the way the Captain got the boat so close.

Elena was really great. Definitely recommend the swimming stop option. The best way to see the island. We took the public transport option to get around the island. Buses were crowded but it was very cheap €2.50 per trip.

Rather go on your own?

There is also the direct HP Travel ferry from Vico Equense (Seiano), returning in the afternoon. Timetable and tickets

How the day works

Getting to Capri from Vico Equense on your own usually means Sorrento first, with the parking and the ticket queue. This minicruise starts in town: tell us where you are staying, we send you the meeting point, and the transfer drops you at the port of Seiano. The boat runs along the Sorrento Coast, villages and terraces above the sea, then turns towards the island with Vesuvius on the horizon. On arrival at Marina Grande you pay the landing fee of the town of Capri, € 5 per person, and the assistant hands you a map of the island.

Free time on Capri

You have several hours to spend as you like. The funicular from the port reaches the Piazzetta, piazza Umberto I, in a few minutes; a ten-minute walk takes you to the Gardens of Augustus, with the view over the Faraglioni and the bends of via Krupp. For the quieter side of the island take the bus to Anacapri: lanes, small shops, Villa San Michele and the chairlift to Monte Solaro, the highest point of Capri. Bus, funicular, chairlift and tickets are paid on the spot.

The Blue Grotto is not in the programme because of the waiting time at its entrance. If you want to go in, arrange it during the free time and ask the assistant how long you need; times and prices are in our Blue Grotto guide.

The cruise around the island

In the afternoon you board again for the part you cannot see from land. The boat follows the cliffs and enters the White Grotto, the Green Grotto and the Marvellous Grotto, each with its own light; it passes under Villa Malaparte, built on its headland above the sea, and reaches the Faraglioni, where the captain takes the boat through the Arch of Love in the middle rock when the sea allows. Then back to Seiano, and the transfer returns you to the meeting point.

Prices and practical notes

Adults € 89, children aged 3 to 6 € 79, infants up to 2 free, the same price all season. Included: transfer, crossing, free time, cruise around the island and map. Not included: landing fee, lunch and tickets. Capri is uphill: comfortable shoes, and in summer a hat, water and sun cream. Decide in advance what you want to see, because the hours go quickly; the Capri map helps. The programme can change with the sea.

Other departures from Vico Equense

In summer the same day runs with a swim: the Capri minicruise with swimming stop from Vico Equense, from € 104. With a tasting on board there is the Capri boat tour from Seiano with limoncello. For the crossing alone, HP Travel runs the Seiano to Capri ferry. For the coast, the Amalfi and Positano boat tour from Vico Equense, from € 89. All departures are on the Capri boat tours page.
